Today, we will spend the whole day exploring the highlighted temples of the Angkor complex. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Angkor was the largest and most important archaeological site in Southeast Asia, containing the magnificent remains of several capitals of the Khmer Empire. The complex features numerous monuments showcasing intricate and naturalistic Khmer architecture.

Our first stop is Ta Prohm, partially reclaimed by the jungle and surrounded by tropical forests. Originally a monastery and a Mahayana Buddhist school, it was constructed by King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th to early 13th century.

Next, we visit Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument. Built in the early 12th century by King Suryavarman II as his mausoleum, Angkor Wat combines the two main types of Khmer architecture: temple-mountain style and classical galleries.

In the afternoon, we explore Angkor Thom, the last and grandest capital of the Khmer Empire, built by King Jayavarman VII in the late 12th century. Highlights include Bayon Temple, the Elephant Terrace, the Leper King Terrace, and the Royal Palace area. We will also visit Preah Khan Temple, another masterpiece built in the same era.

Return to your hotel, and the evening is free for you to enjoy Siem Reap by night at your leisure.
